Run. Run. Sick.

I’d been doing pretty well with my running. We were getting up at the crack of dawn and getting out there, and Sunday I even managed a 5-miler on rolling hills. I hadn’t run 5 miles in a while so I wasn’t sure how this would go, but it ended up being ok. The first two miles were tough, tough, tough, but once we got into a rhythm, the second half of the run seemed easier and I felt good at the finish. On this run, we run out from a beach, through a  beautiful neighborhood and end back at the beach. You can’t ask for more than that. The weather up until yesterday has been really cooperative from a running perspective. Cool, but not freezing, and still short sleeves weather. I think though that’s done. Tomorrow, it’s supposed to be rainy and cold. Maybe even snow flurries. Ugh....

Early in the Morning

10/12/2011

Early in the morning before the sun comes up, before the birds start singing, before the majority of the people I know are out of bed, I’m out there running with Jen. On Tuesdays anyway. It’s our new routine. We started, I want to say five, six weeks ago? I should say I started because she’s been doing this early morning stuff much longer than that. Other than the fact that I’m ready for...

Pink Power Race Report: Better Late Than Never

On August 21, I competed in the Pink Power triathlon in Richmond, VA. After listening to me talk on and on and on and on about triathlons and triathlon training, good and bad, my sister decided she wanted to do this too. I’m not sure how I convince other people to join me in this crazy endeavor. It’s not really that much fun. Crossing the finish line though is  fun, and I must have...

A Hurricane, New Sneakers and Post-Race Running

I did what I thought would be my last triathlon of 2011 on Aug. 21, but it looks like that may change. This tri was challenging, hilly and hot. HOT has been a theme in my races this year. So I think I’ll go back and try this one again in October. I owe you a race report and you’ll get that soon. After this race, I spent a week, doing, well, nothing. I...

Smith’s Point Triathlon Race Report: Wet and Windy

Yesterday was Smith’s Point Tri. I never mentioned that I was doing this one because even though I’d signed up for it, I wasn’t sure I was going. The weather was tentative all week and while I’ve been working out, I don’t know if I could say I’ve been training the way I should have been before a race. We’re talking one brick workout in a couple of months. And I’d never done a...

Road Rules: Cars v. Bicycles

I am not a fan of bike training. It’s not that I don’t like being out on my bike. In this heat, the breeze that comes from moving at a decent pace makes the exercise tolerable. When I can get a good momentum going, I feel powerful. I can log a lot more miles in a lot less time than swimming or running. For some reason though, on the bike, I feel invisible to...

Pit Bulls, Chica Bands and Holiday BBQs

It’s been a while, so I’ve got random stuff to write about. While I haven’t been great about posting to the ol’ blog, I have been keeping up with my training. In the past, when I let the blogging slip, it’s usually because I’ve let the workouts and healthy eating slip as well. Not much to write about then. Or maybe that’s when I should be writing the most, and confessing my slip-ups. So...
