Ouuuuch…in a good way

01/12/2010

I’ve been sitting at the computer for awhile. Blogging class, chatting with my brother (I’ve added his zazzle store to my sidebar – BarrelX. He’s quite the designer and he focuses on Xtreme sports. Cool stuff.) I wear his stuff all the time.

Anyway, as I went to get up from the computer to head back upstairs, OOOWWWWW. You may have noticed I’m sitting down again.

After a few weeks of intermittent workouts at best, I have gotten in four very solid exercise days. Core/strength training/Zumba on Saturday, swimming on Sunday, core/strength training with the ab killer Monday night and running Tuesday morning.

The Ab Killer was especially energetic Monday night and we worked hard. Even tried out some new stuff on the Pilates bench. I was already sore from the weekend, but the training last night helped stretch that out. I felt good this morning, so I finally got my butt out of bed before the sun came up and headed to the gym. I forgot my iPod and had to go home to get it and then go back to the gym, but I still had time to get in a 2.5-mile run. Good thing the gym is so close. :-)

I felt fine all day. Better than fine. I was feeling toned and strong. Early morning run endorphins are a wonderful thing. They lasted a good part of the day. I sit a lot at work too and I noticed toward the end of the day I was starting to feel a little twingy. But it wasn’t anything too bad.

However, now? Getting up to get ready to go up to bed, everything is sore…from my fingertips to my toes. Ok, the fingertip thing is because I jammed my hand on the wall of the pool Sunday so maybe that one doesn’t count…. but yes, I am aware of pretty much every inch of my body at the moment.

This kind of pain I can deal with. It’s a good hurt. It means I’m pushing my body in a good way. So I’m going to do some light stretching and go to sleep. Tomorrow morning, it’s swim time! And then everything will feel all loose again…for at least a little while.

Hi there. I’m writing a guide to joining a gym for a lifestyle blog, The Fat Girl’s Guide to Living. http://www.fatgirlsguidetoliving.com/ I’d love it if you could contact me with some tips on what to look for in a good gym if you’re an overweight woman. Thanks!

    Diane,

Nice article. Where you do take blogging classes?

BTW, I joined Urban Active, which is about 3 miles from where I live. There are great deals out there right now with regard to gyms. I am only paying $19.95 a month…with no contract. Full access to their pool, workout equipment, classes, etc.

Hi Toni, I was really hesitant about joining the gym when I started last year because I was heavier.
I found a family-friendly gym where there were people of all shapes, sizes and ages, and that made me more comfortable. I also looked for a gym that had good hours and was CLOSE TO HOME (I like getting there in the morning when it’s less crowded). The close to home thing actually gives me one less excuse. It’s easy to get there.
I wanted a pool because I was a swimmer and I knew that would be a good place to get started again. When we are just starting out, swimming or any kind of water exercises are a great way to start.
Find a gym where you can get a free trainer session to learn how to use the equipment the right way is really important too. Getting hurt is the last thing you want.
And last but not least, cleanliness. My gym has paper towels and cleaner near all the equipment so it can be wiped down easily.

    Hi Jeannie,
I teach a blogging class. More about setting up your self-hosted blog, how to optimize it and understanding the wordpress dashboard and all the bells and whistles. Right now, it’s in beta, but I’ll be offering it very soon!

    Hey Diane!

Yay for feeling ‘good sore!’ And yes, those early-am endorphins are a beautiful thing!! Would love to hear more about your blogging class when you’re ready to share more info. I set up a wordpress account last summer, when I first began blogging, and was immediately overwhelmed w/ all the bells & whistles (and I consider myself fairly intelligent! LOL), so I switched to Blogger, but want to upgrade sometime this year. I’ll be calling on you with questions, I’m sure!

BTW – why am I not seeing your name on the Pay if Forward 500 Mile Club on the Turtles blog? A few triathlets have said that’s a good mileage goal, since you guys swim/bike, too. Just curious….

    Take care!
