I’m ready for spring. We’re under a blizzard warning today in the NY area, with up to 14 inches of snow expected. Granted, it’s not what the Maryland area has been dealing with, but it’s still a lot of messy wet stuff that makes driving, or walking, no fun.
I’m not a skier or any other type of cold-weather sports fan, so I have very little use for the white stuff. Even the snow day we have from work is really more trouble than its worth. We have a Friday deadline that has to be met whether we are in the office or not today.
More than the inconvenience though, snow has always been a signal to eat. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because I’m housebound. Maybe it goes back to some childhood tradition. When we were kids, my mom baked…a lot. Really good stuff. A snowy day often meant playing outside and coming in to hot chocolate and homemade cookies or apple spice cake, or maybe even Whoopie Pies (yes, she made these from scratch and I haven’t found a store-bought Whoopie Pie that even comes close. Believe me, I’ve searched).
So now I see snow, especially snow like this one, and I think food! Baked goods; sweets; warm, rich comfort foods like mac and cheese, homemade of course.
I’m hiding in the basement office today. I have some work to do for real work, and I’m going to find a project. I need to shift snow days from sitting in front of the TV eating yummy stuff to healthier, more productive alternatives.
I’ve been struggling as it is to stay on track this winter. I don’t need a snow day to derail it even further.
So I’ll eat healthy today. I’ll get the bike on the trainer and get in a home workout since I can’t get to the gym. I’ll get some organizing done.
And I’ll say a prayer that this is the last of the snow days and we start to see some warming soon. When the weather is warmer and outside exercise is an option, I have an easier time staying on track as my race goals are in sight. I’m looking forward to running and biking outside again.
I’m ready for spring.

Seriously, the snow must be stopped! We have close to 34 inches since last Saturday!!! This is ridiculous!
Oh my! Have been watching on TV in utter amazement(!). No snow in Orlando, but chilly (52 degrees/37 this morning). After living in Ohio for two yrs, I can honestly say I’m NOT missing the white stuff, but I could sure use a snow day – to stay home and sleep-all day. Hang in there! The baked goods sound soooo yummy.
