I’m Back… And Hurt
I was released from the chains at my desk at the job on Friday at around 4:50 pm. Hurray! We finished our huge issues, and I was able to step away from the computer. It seemed endless, but it finally did end. I used the weekend to regroup and get reacquainted with my family. Then yesterday, as has been my tradition the past couple of weeks, I went for my Sunday run.
Well I tried to go for my Sunday run. It was beautiful here yesterday afternoon, 50s, sunny, a bit windy. I was so happy to be outside I started out a bit too fast, quickly got winded (didn’t help that I was running against the wind), slowed to a walk for about a minute to re-pace myself and started to run again. Ouch. Left knee locked. That’s never happened before…. Kept running, thinking it would loosen up, but no, the more I ran, the more it hurt. Slowed to a walk again. Tried to run again. The same every time. I did this for, oh, I don’t know 3/4 of a mile, before I realized there would be no more running yesterday. And by then I was a mile and a half out. So I walked the mile and a half home.
My knee felt “ok” while I was walking, meaning it didn’t scream at me like it did when I tried to push it to a slow jog. Instead it just whispered…”you are going to regret this later.”
And regret it later I did. After I got home and sat for a bit, and then went to get back up again, the knee was screaming…walking, running, just standing. My knee was not having any of it. And this lasted most of the night. If I walked around, it eased out. But getting up? Going up and down stairs? And you know I was doing laundry in the basement… my knee didn’t want any part of it.
I managed to get through the evening and then went to bed (up stairs again), and this morning when I woke up, the pain wasn’t as bad. Stairs and first getting up and then in and out of the car, not so much fun, but overall it feels better than yesterday. And I’m hoping its back to normal within a day or two. If nothing else, I have to traipse all over a tradeshow floor all weekend in Chicago, and that won’t be much fun if my knee is protesting.
I wouldn’t mind the knee problem as much if I knew what I did to it, but I have no idea. One minute, running, all systems go; the next, “Owie, WTH?”
At any rate, I can still swim and I think bike. Now that the work chains are off, there is no time for injuries. Training has to start in earnest. There are only six weeks before the first race. That said, I won’t take any chance with my knee either. I will exercise caution (get it?)
I’ll have time for blogging again now too. I have lots to talk about after these last two weeks: nutritious eating, mindless eating, not working out and feeling old, how it is that it’s so much easier to gain weight than it is to lose… all kinds of fun stuff!
Any suggestions on getting the knee back quickly, I’m all ears!

Welcome back! I will look forward to your posts.
I am looking to run my first 5K at the end of May…so I am in training. I have always been a runner/walker…but total running is so different. I am doing the couch potato to 5K method. I need encouragement!
OOOOOooooo! Ice pack…ice pack..ice pack…and ibuprofen every 8 hours for a day or 2…
See a dr if it is not better in a few days! Do not push through it. Seriously, if you do…well, then you really will be talking regret.
Do these stretches.
