I am so glad that triathlons are in the morning. If they were in the afternoon, I don’t think I’d ever finish even one leg. I’ve learned about myself since I started working out that I am a morning person when it comes to exercise.
Unfortunately, mornings aren’t always convenient. Take today for example. I had a run planned for this morning but my alarm didn’t go off and I overslept. So since it was nice out and light out when I got home from work, I went out for my run then. Before my run, and after work, I stopped at the bank, the grocery store and the gas station…. I’m just sayin.
I felt pretty good when I headed out the door. I’ve been really good about working out these past two weeks; yesterday I swam in the morning and biked on the trainer last night. Double workout. Woot!
My endurance has come back and my Sunday run (in the morning) felt strong and steady.
But this after work running thing? I don’t know if it’s a pacing issue, a tired issue or a mental issue. Somehow when I was running tonight (and I’ve noticed it in other night runs too), I had trouble quieting the voice that tells me it’s time to walk, and I listened to it. I ran more than I walked, but I walked more than I usually do or wanted to.
Ah well. I went running after work tonight. That was the good thing to do. A few weeks ago, I would probably have blown the workout off. And a crappy after-work run is better than no run at all.
I’m glad race season is upon us again. For me, it’s the ultimate motivator.

I did a 5k once at night and loved it. As for training, I totally prefer the morning, even on weekends!
