Sneakers On and Out for a Walk

04/14/2010

Well, it wasn’t a run, but I did make it out for a walk today at least. Two and a half miles, my toe only got twingy a couple of times. Up until yesterday, I couldn’t even put my sneakers on, so I feel like tonight was real progress. It was a beautiful evening and I really needed the fresh air and movement so it felt great.

Funny how when you get hurt, or when I got hurt anyway, I got nervous about doing much of anything because I was afraid of rehurting my toe. When I tried to run last week, it was really, really not fun.

It’s frustrating not to move, but it’s easier than getting hurt again. And then it just gets easy to get lazy. There have been things I could do this week that didn’t necessarily require sneakers, but I didn’t do them.

I did go for a good walk tonight. And I can do that again tomorrow. Time to get back to the rest of the routine too. I may not be racing next week, but I do have triathlons on the calendar.

I’m going to add a couple of 10ks in May and June too. I hope to be back to running by next week but I won’t push it. In the meantime, there’s always walking. The way I walked today, that was a good workout too.

Good for you, you took that walk. Walking is always good.

I’m like you. About 3 years ago I had an injury at my calf, it happened during a Step class and when I was healed I was scared to go back to the gym because I was afraid to injure again. It took me a while before I actually went back and tried it, which (of course) went fine.

You are so right- I am going for my first real jog tonight, outside, and I am terrified of getting hurt again. I have done some jogging on the treadmill, but with my PT right there. This is like starting all over again!

Best of luck on your jog tonight Jill! Your injury was much worse than mine. Take it slow. I’m sure you’ll be fine!!
