Running: Conditions Matter
I went for my second run this week. It’s still hot. But not nearly as hot as it was on Wednesday. Again, as I write this post it’s raining, which we’ve been told will bring in more scorching heat tomorrow, however short-lived.
With the impending rain, it was humid again this morning too, but again, not nearly as humid as it was on Wednesday. Today’s run was bearable. Today’s run actually wasn’t bad. I still had to walk a bit, but I went 2.5 miles with less walking and more efficient running than Wednesday. In fact, I did the longer distance in about the same amount of time.
I didn’t feel like I weighed 2000 pounds on today’s run. That could be because I have been eating much better than I was earlier in the week. It could also be just that the air wasn’t as heavy.
Today’s run left me feeling like with a few more weeks of training, I can get back to where I was last year pretty soon, pre-injuries. Today’s run had me contemplating how far I’ve come rather than the steps backwards I’ve taken recently.
I forget that sometimes. I forget that before last year, I wouldn’t have even considered running and when I did start, I couldn’t run more than a minute at a time. I did some walking today, but I’d log a mile running and then walk for half a block and run again. Minimal walking really. I’ve been letting that frustrate me, when I should be proud that I’m getting out there at all.
This week with the heat, I put aside my expectations of myself and decided to just go. Have fun. Do what my body felt like doing. Doing something, after all, is better than doing nothing. As a result, today’s run was better than Wednesday’s and maybe Sunday’s will be better than today’s. Maybe not. What I do know is that as long as I get out there, I feel better than when I don’t. And really, that’s all that counts.
A Proud Moment:
I’m going to brag a little. I received A Blog with Substance award from Jill over at Finishing is Winning.
Thank you Jill! I’m really honored!
And the rules are simple:
The Rules:
•Thank the blogger who awarded it to you.
•Sum up your blogging philosophy, motivation, and experience using five (5) words.
•Pass it on to other blogs which you feel have real substance.
My blogging philosophy in five words:
Write About What Moves You!
And by MOVE, I mean emotionally and physically. This is after all, a fitness blog!
There are so many blogs where I’ve connected with the writers that it’s hard to narrow it down. But, I’ll try.

Hey Diane,
Congrats on the honor of being a blog of substance. You certainly are!
keep up the good work.

Thanks for the award! I’m honored!
Good for you that you did go for that run despite the heat. And yes it’s good to look back sometimes and think and be thankful for what you’ve accomplished. And you’ve accomplished a lot to be proud of!
