Awesome Run Day!

Awesome Run Day!

I’ve been complaining a lot about the weather, about training indoors, about having trouble staying on track. Today is a different post. Today was an awesome run day! It rained here yesterday, all day. Yay for rain! Not that I love a rainy day, but it’s better than snow. Seriously better than snow. Today, I woke up to sunny skies, above freezing temperatures and streets with shoulders, thanks to the rain yesterday which cleared some of the snow away…finally. I was almost happy to get out of bed and get ready for a run. I say almost because I’m never completely thrilled about getting out of my nice warm bed on a Sunday morning for anything. Today though, I was taking advantage of the temperate weather . Today, I was going to shed the treadmill and run outside! And run I did. 5 miles worth. An hour out in...

Start, Stop, Start, Stop. Complain. Start again.

It’s been two weeks since my last blog post.  TWO WEEKS! Since I started this journey and started this blog, I haven’t gone that long without posting. Oh wait. In the very beginning I did. When I would stop and start on the journey, only to stop again. Maybe it’s the stop/start that’s kept me from blogging these past couple of weeks. Maybe it’s work. Maybe it’s lack of motivation. I’m not sure. I have felt this past month like I’m being pulled in 19 directions. Mostly it’s of my own doing. I hear of a project or new idea that sounds great and I want in, only to realize I’m overextended again. Work? We’re in our crunch season, our superbowl, our world series, as my sports-enthusiast boss would put it. My job has shifted here. And now my job is to write, and write and write and write....

Snow, Snow Go Away… and really, you don’t need to come back

Snow, Snow Go Away… and really, you don’t need to come back

I was supposed to be in Atlanta this week for work. But Atlanta was an ice skating rink. And the day we were supposed to take off? Lots more snow in New York. Canceled flights. Canceled trip. But the snow? I’ve had enough. Just when I thought I’d conquered the cold for outside runs and got prepared with all of my warm weather gear to run and bike outside, the snow hit. It hit hard. And it keeps hitting. I can only run outside either in the early morning during the week or at night because it’s winter and I have a job. I don’t really like to run at those times, but I do it. Problem is, early in the morning or after dark, the roads get icy, and right now, the shoulders of the road are buried under two feet of snow again in my neighborhood. We...

Solo Runs, the Gym and My New Bike!

Solo Runs, the Gym and My New Bike!

I hope everyone had a very Happy New Year! The New Year is always a time of reflection for me. I’m not sure I believe in resolutions. I tend to blow those up within a week, so I prefer to set goals. I have lots of them this year. I am fully expecting 2011 to be my year! It will be my year for great races and top training (I have Team in Training to thank for that!) I can’t remember where I read it the other day, but somewhere a blogger I read referred to resolutions as re-inspirations. I loved that. I think I’ll use that from now on. Anyway, my New Year’s eve started off on a high note. I went for a solo run outside. It was 34 degrees, but no wind. For Christmas, I got compression running tights and very warm gloves so I was...

A Fresh Start

A Fresh Start

Rotten cold over. Check Holiday feasting and revelry done. Check 2010-2011 Winter Blizzard over. Check (and let’s hope there’s not another one!) Resolutions for 2011 firmly in place? Well that’s what we’re doing here. I’ve committed to Team in Training and an Olympic Distance Triathlon for May 1. Training was going well until Rotten Cold took over. Now it’s been a couple of weeks. Ack! Tomorrow means back to the gym. I got all kinds of cool outdoor running gear for Christmas but old man Winter has put outdoor training on hold for at least a week. Maybe it will rain next weekend. In the meantime, I can break in the new sneaks on the treadmill. The Diet! I’ve stopped and started so many times this year with a new healthy eating regimen, I’ve lost count. What I haven’t lost count of are the pounds I’ve managed to find...

Snowball 5-Mile Run: Race Report

Snowball 5-Mile Run: Race Report

Not a 5K. 5 miles. Five long, hard miles. This was, by far, not my favorite racing experience. But I went, I saw, I ran, I finished. Very close to last. But that’s ok. I finished. No snowballs by the way. Not even any snow, although there were a few flurries the night before. I have been feeling like my running has been getting better, and actually it has. I went into this race with some nervousness (this would be the first time I’d take on this distance without any stops, ever). I ran 5 miles once a year ago, but it was a neighborhood run and at the 3-mile mark, I was able to stop home to pee, swig some water and head out again. I woke up with what felt like a cold coming on (stuffy, sore throat, cough kind of thing) but figured I could power...

LARA Bars – How Did I Not Know?

LARA Bars – How Did I Not Know?

A couple of months ago, I discovered LARA bars. Rather, I read about them on another bloggy site and then found them in Sam’s Club and thought, “Let’s give these a try.” At Sam’s Club, they had a variety pack of LARA Bars in Apple Pie, Cherry Pie and Cashew Cookie flavors. It was risky. 18 LARA Bars for, oh, I don’t know, 16 bucks? If we didn’t like them, that would have been kind of a waste of money. But alas, they were yummy and the hubs and I both like them, so they get eaten. But here’s the cool part. I thought LARA bars only came in those flavors. Until….. a few weeks ago when I went to visit the sister in Virginia. I ate my Apple Pie and Cherry Pie bars on the way down, and didn’t have any left to go home with. They are...
